Career path

Evelyn Somera is a dancer, choreographer, and instructor specializing in Arabic dance, with a 15-year career in the discipline. She has honed her craft by training with distinguished national and international masters, participating in masterclasses, conferences, certification programs, and specialized courses that have continuously enriched her artistic journey.
She holds the Darbuka Raks Project certification—focused on Middle Eastern rhythms—as well as a diploma in Oriental dance from Ross de Leon. Furthermore, she has complemented her training with studies in contemporary dance, jazz, and ballet, building a multidisciplinary background that is now a key part of her vision as a performer, creator, and instructor.

Her artistic work is distinguished by a pursuit of authentic interpretation, technical precision, and a deep connection to the music. She has been a member of the BALM 2020 dance troupe, a finalist in the reality show Diamantes de BALM, and has had the opportunity to share the stage with international companies such as Bellydance Evolution.
Throughout her career, Evelyn has participated in and been recognized at various national and international competitions, earning significant accolades in both amateur and professional categories.
Her teaching career began at OSVID, where she taught from 2018 to 2020, followed by a stint at Duncan Centro Dancístico from 2019 to 2020. Following the changes brought about by the pandemic and the advent of virtual instruction, she opened Academia Luz de Luna in 2022—a project born from the desire to create a space where artistic training and technical rigor could coexist with a personal touch, creativity, and a sense of community.

Her creative drive has also led her to develop her own projects across various areas of dance and art. She is the creator of Somera Designs, Muktabar Drum, and Muktabar Dance—initiatives that reflect her interest in continuing to explore new ways of creating and sharing her passion.
Today, as the director of Academia Luz de Luna, Evelyn continues to grow as both an artist and an instructor, bringing the experience she has gained on stage, in competitions, and through her own training to every class. Her teaching aims to guide both those taking their first steps and those wishing to deepen their dance journey, combining technique, creativity, musicality, interpretation, and expression.
Because for Evelyn, learning to dance is not just about mastering movements, but also about discovering everything that can emerge when a person allows themselves to express what they are through their body.
